Japandi-Inspired Bedroom Design
Not every luxury space needs to shout. This master bedroom, designed by Domora, was built around the opposite instinct: a quiet, textured retreat that draws its richness from warmth, imperfection, and material honesty rather than polish and shine.
Design Concept: The Wabi-Sabi Bedroom
The brief for this project called for a bedroom that felt calm, grounded, and deeply personal — a space to disconnect from the city rather than a showpiece to impress visitors. Domora's interior design team responded with a Japandi-inspired approach, a style that blends Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian warmth, and layered it with wabi-sabi textures: raw plaster, natural wood, and organic, hand-finished forms.
This is a style that's grown increasingly popular in Dubai's residential interior design scene, precisely because it offers something the city's skyline doesn't: softness, stillness, and a sense of being lived-in rather than staged.

The Headboard Wall as a Sculptural Statement
The standout feature of the room is its custom feature wall behind the bed — an organic, hand-painted silhouette in sage green and sandy taupe that curves and dips across the plaster like a landscape. Rather than a conventional headboard, Domora's designers used the wall itself as the headboard, finished in a soft microcement-style plaster texture that catches light differently throughout the day.
Two woven rattan pendant lights hang from the ceiling on either side of the bed, replacing traditional bedside lamps and reinforcing the room's natural, handcrafted material language. The result is a headboard wall that functions as art, architecture, and lighting design all at once — a detail that photographs beautifully and gives the room an unmistakable identity.

A Reading Nook and Vanity Corner
To one side of the bed, Domora's team incorporated a built-in daybed / reading nook upholstered in natural linen, layered with an eclectic mix of textured cushions in rust, cream, and geometric patterns. A macramé wall hanging in graduated tones of green, cream, and charcoal anchors the space above it — a handcrafted textile detail that softens the room's plastered walls and adds tactile richness.
Just beyond, a fluted, forest-green joinery unit houses an open shelving display and a built-in vanity console, complete with a round mirror and integrated lighting. This piece does double duty as both a display wall for personal objects — books, framed photos, fragrance — and a functional dressing area, finished with the same considered detailing found throughout Domora's turnkey interior projects.

Materials and Palette
The material story here is deliberately restrained: raw plaster walls in warm sand tones, matte green joinery and accent panels, natural oak flooring, and woven rattan and linen textures throughout. A large potted fiddle-leaf fig adds a living, sculptural element, while an oversized floor lamp and an oval leaning mirror bring functional elegance to the far side of the room near the window, which is dressed in soft sheer and heavier linen drapery to filter Dubai's natural light without losing warmth.
Nothing in the room is loud. Instead, every material — plaster, wood, rattan, linen — was chosen for the way it ages, wears, and feels, in keeping with the wabi-sabi principle that beauty lives in the imperfect and the natural rather than the flawless and the new.

Engineering the Details
Behind the soft aesthetic sits the same rigor Domora applies to every project. The custom-shaped plaster feature wall required precise setting-out and skilled hand-application to achieve clean, consistent curves at full height. The joinery — from the fluted display shelving to the low-profile bed platform — was custom-built and fitted on site to exact measurements, while lighting circuits for the cove lighting, pendant fixtures, and reading lamps were coordinated at the design stage to ensure a clean, cable-free finish.

A Low, Grounded Bed Platform
In keeping with the Japandi philosophy of "living low to the ground," the bed sits on a low, solid wood platform rather than a raised frame — a deliberate design choice that makes the room feel more spacious, more grounded, and more serene. Soft linen bedding in warm ivory and rust tones continues the earthy palette, while chunky raw-wood stump side tables replace conventional nightstands, adding to the room's organic, unfussy character.
