A kitchen island can carry an entire room's identity if it's given the chance. In this high-rise apartment, Domora built the whole kitchen around one striking piece — a dark, richly veined marble island — and let everything else in the space support it rather than compete with it.
Building a Kitchen Around One Material Moment
The client wanted a kitchen that felt current and slightly moody rather than the bright white galley kitchens so common in Dubai apartments. Domora's response was to lean into contrast: warm, natural oak veneer cabinetry across every wall, paired with a black-veined marble island and matching backsplash that reads almost as a piece of furniture rather than a built-in fixture.

A Waterfall Island That Anchors the Room
The island's marble continues down both exposed sides in a waterfall edge, turning what could be a simple countertop into a genuine sculptural centerpiece. Four channel-tufted bar stools in charcoal boucle, finished with slim rose-gold metal frames, line one side, giving the island a clear secondary role as a casual dining and entertaining spot rather than just a food-prep surface.
Positioned squarely in the apartment's open living area, with floor-to-ceiling glazing behind it looking out over the city skyline, the island also becomes the room's natural gathering point — the place guests end up standing, regardless of where the seating is.

Cabinetry That Reads as One Continuous Surface
Rather than breaking the kitchen wall into visibly separate units, Domora specified handleless oak veneer cabinetry that runs floor to ceiling in a single, continuous plane, interrupted only by integrated appliances and a glass-fronted upper cabinet used to display glassware and spirits. Warm LED strip lighting tucked beneath the upper cabinets and behind the marble backsplash keeps the counter well-lit for cooking while adding a soft glow that carries into the evening.
Built-in Bosch appliances, including a wall oven and automatic coffee machine, are integrated flush into the cabinetry rather than left as standalone units — a detail that keeps the kitchen's clean lines intact and avoids the visual clutter that freestanding appliances tend to introduce.

Walls That Do Double Duty
Just beyond the kitchen, a matching wood-panelled corridor continues the same material language — oak veneer walls, book-matched marble inlay strips, and slim vertical LED wall fixtures that trace a soft ribboned pattern up the wall. A large abstract metallic artwork and a diamond-patterned feature door add texture and visual interest to what would otherwise be a simple transitional space, reinforcing that Domora's design thinking extended beyond the kitchen itself to every space connected to it.

Practical Details Behind the Finish
A kitchen this visually clean requires careful coordination behind the scenes. Handleless cabinetry needs precisely calibrated push-to-open mechanisms to function smoothly over years of daily use; the waterfall marble island required exact slab matching and mitred edges to make the veining appear continuous around each corner; and concealed lighting channels for both the cabinetry and the corridor wall fixtures had to be wired before a single panel went up. Domora's turnkey delivery — handling design, engineering, and installation as one process — meant these details were resolved on paper long before the kitchen was built, avoiding the kind of on-site rework that can compromise a design this precise.
A Lighting Fixture as Sculpture
Above the island, an angular, cross-shaped pendant fixture in brushed rose-gold and matte black does double duty as task lighting and as art. Its geometric, almost architectural form gives the kitchen a focal point at eye level to match the marble island below it — a deliberate pairing that keeps the room feeling curated rather than simply functional.
